The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Enugu state has unveiled her office with modern ICT equipment.
Speaking during the event at NUJ Enugu Press Center, the unveiler and Deputy Governor Enugu state, Dr. Ifeanyi Ossai challenged female journalists to remain professional in news reportage.
Represented by the Information officer, office of the Deputy Governor, Comrade Anthonia Okafor, Dr. Ossai commended the efforts 0f NAWOJians in ensuring a society free from Gender Based Violence.
In an address, the chairperson NAWOJ Enugu state, Comrade Ngozi Ngene appreciated everyone who attended the event especially corporate bodies and individuals who sponsored and supported NAWOJ Enugu state by making the outing a successful one.
“The launch of these new equipment will not only improve our efficiency and productivity, attract international donors but will also reduce cost of administration. We that every individual, corporate bodies and donor agencies who sponsored the equipment, may the almighty God bless you all.”
She continued “it is a great honour that our administration is one year in office with great success. This executive will continue to reposition our association to serve the interest of members and the society at large. From when this administration assumed office in July 2022, NAWOJ has participated in activities such as in Sensitization of the media to push for the implementation of activation of the Criminal Justice law ACJL as well as in Violation against Persons Prohibition VAAP Law in Enugu state.´
Comrade Ngene who noted that her executive shared among female journalists about one hundred and fifty (150) wrapper also on members to continue to bring their God giving talents to move the union forward.
In a keynote address, the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Enugu state, Comrade Sam Udekwe assured NAWOJians unalloyed support in all their activities. He said “for us as NUJ council Enugu state, we can never leave you in the desert because no part can be complete without the entire membership of the gender. We are here for you to equip your office and for it to be celebrated. We want to carry out an exercise that will form a landmark.”
Comrade Udekwe further stated “if are conscious of our unity, if we say union it’s about oneness. Today in the ICT world, you cannot do anything without being ICT compliance. NAWOJians today know the value of ICT, so to help ensure that they sign off, nothing can be more symbolic than building a foundation of ICT in NAWOJ and that’s why NUJ got a computer device for them.”
The chairman organizing committee comrade Lucy N Harry-Enwu urged members to keep promoting peace and unity for a greater Enugu NAWOJ.
According to her, I appreciate the state NAWOJ Executive for finding mr and my committee worthy to discharge this assignment. I also want to thank comrades Nma Okonkwo and Maureen Ikpeama for their selfless efforts and commitment towards the actualization of this project. Today we are dressed in our beautiful uniform marking the peace and unity that exist in NAWOJ Enugu state hence the celebration of this anniversary.”
Highlight of the event was cutting of the anniversary cake.
The event attracted dignitaries such as NAWOJ BOT member, Comrade Ngozi Ngene, a former chairperson of the association, comrade Chieso Aninwagwa, NUJ national officer, Comrade Amaka Agbo, NUJ scribe, Dame Ifeoma Amuta, Vice chairman of the council, comrade Regis Anukwoji an elder statesman, comrade Odogwu Odoemena and the Ag Deputy Director News Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Mrs Uche Ezekwe.
