The first lady of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Mrs. Chinonyerem Anike on Monday December 11 mobilized support for the campaign against Gender-Based Violence. (GBV) in line with the 16 days activism 2023.

The campaign which was geared towards accelerating actions to end gender-based violence and femicide in the state was in collaboration with the Heroine Women Foundation and Women Support Women International.

In alignment with the initiative, Hon. Mrs Chinonyerem Anike, mobilized youths and women to carry out sensitization across major markets and streets in the area.

At Abakpa market, many traders commended the initiative and expressed optimism that it will yield positive outcome.

Meanwhile, the group later converged at Enugu East LG Secretariat, where an interactive session was held and anchored by a team from the office of the wife of Enugu State governor ably led by Amb. Onyinye Mamah.

In a remark, Amb. Mamah who is the president Women Support Women International and Chief Executive Officer Heroine Women Foundation dissected various topics related to gender-based violence and responded to questions by the participants.

“The 16-days activism was launched to address gender-based violence. I therefore enjoined victims to report to appropriate authorities for legal action to be taken against perpetrators. I also want leaders at all levels both Religious, Community and other opinion leaders to join in the campaign against SGBV so as to nip it to the bud.”

In an interview with the press, the wife of the council Chairman, Hon. Mrs Chinonyerem Anike extoled the activism by Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah and for her special interest in the affairs and welfare of women and children including vulnerable groups. She beseeched God to continue to bless and reward Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and his wife abundantly.

The event was well attended by invited groups.
