Death In Active Service: Enugu Firefighter Buried Amidst Tears and Tribute.

The remains of Mr Chidozie Ugwu, a Senior Fire Officer, Enugu state fire Service who died in active service has been buried in his village, Ibule Umuofiagu, Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti local government area of Enugu State.

He lost his life tragically on December 13, 2023, while bravely battling a fire outbreak at the Motor Spare Parts Market in Coal Camp, Enugu.

In his remak, the Director of Enugu State Fire Service, Engr Okwudiri Daniel Ọhaa, said the death of Ugwu is a great loss to the service. He assured that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, is committed to ensuring the welfare of the family of the deceased.

“Enugu State Governor, Hon. Mbah, personally wrote a tribute to the fallen firefighter, expressing his deep sorrow at the loss. The tribute was presented to the wife of the deceased, who was clearly devastated by the tragedy. Governor Mbah also noted that the firefighter’s sacrifice would not be forgotten, and that he would be remembered as a true hero.

This gesture demonstrated the profound sadness that the state felt at the loss of this brave man. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has assured of giving the family of late Chigozie Ugwu maximum support because he was a dedicated and reliable staff that believed in humanity first.”

The director also said that the governor had personally taken charge of all burial expenses, further reinforcing the commitment of the state government to support the family during this challenging time.

Also speaking, Chief Nnia Nwodo, a former Minister of Aviation, Information, commended governor Mbah for his genuine concern towards the well-being of the late fire officer’s family.

Nnia Nwodo who is the former President General of Ohaneze Ndị Igbo, stated that he personally contacted Governor Mbah, who assured him of providing substantial support to the bereaved family.

Nwodo, who described himself as a non-card-carrying member of the Labour Party, appreciated Governor Mbah’s commitment to assisting the family despite political affiliations.

“I called Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah over the welfare of the deceased’s family, and he said he has been thinking of what to do to assist the family, and that he intends to see the wife one on one.”

He applauded the governor’s empathy and willingness to extend a helping hand, citing it as a testament to Governor Mbah’s dedication to the well-being of Enugu State residents.
