Just when Abakaliki thought the worst was over, another disaster has struck. Rockefellers, a beloved club frequented by locals and tourists alike, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
Rockefeller, the popular club which is located at No 2 Udeoji Street opposite Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki was enguffed by fire at early hours of today February 7, 2024.

The Manager of the Club House, Mr Chidi Chukwuemeka said that one of the workers on duty told him that the fire emanated from the roof of the House.
Mr Chukwuemeka said another worker who was sleeping in the Club House when the fire started sustained fire burns while all the property in the facility was destroyed before the arrival of the fire fighters.
“One off my workers in the kitchen was burnt but has been rushed to the hospital.
My workers on night duty alleged that the fire incident started from the roof and could not asertain the cause”.
An owner of one of the shops in the area, Mr Ogbonna Oko said his shop would have been destroyed by the fire if not for the efforts of the fire fighters.
” I thank God for the fire fighters who came immediately they were called to put off the fire and my shop was saved.”
The State Chief Fire Officer, Mr Raphael Ibiam said though the Fire Office was contacted late, their intervention helped to contain the fire from spreading to a nearby shop and residential homes around.
According to him “infact we were able to save the store here and other apartments despite that there is no space. The public should endeavour to be calling us on time instead of fighting fire with bare hand. Actually the fire fighters fought and was able to curtail the spread of the fire.
If we were called don time it would not have gotten to this extent ”
Our Corresponden reports that the incident was a devastating blow to the city, which is still reeling from the fire at Real Exclusive just a week ago.
He also said that the double tragedy has left many wondering what the future holds for Abakaliki’s once-thriving nightlife scene.
