In commemoration of International Women’s Day with the theme INVEST IN WOMEN: ACCELERATE PROGRESS, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Enugu State has called on the general public to invest in women for the well-being of the society.
The statement which was jointly signed by the Chairperson Comrades Ngozi Ngene and Secretary Ogochukwu Chukwudike focuses on the importance of empowering and educating women and girls.
NAWOJ believes that gender equality cannot be achieved without the full participation of women and girls in society, and that education is key to achieving this.
NAWOJ has been working to promote the rights of women and girls, and is committed to ensuring that they have the same opportunities as men.
Enugu NAWOJ stressed that education of women is an essential part of the development of society as it influences the coming generation.
The statement further stated that development of the future generations depends on how empowered women are.
“By educating women, we are not only empowering them, but also strengthening the entire nation. Educated women make for better managers of the home and society, and are more likely to raise children who are productive members of society.
“Gender equality, food security, and poverty reduction all benefit from women’s education and essential to achieving a thriving and prosperous nation.
Therefore, the government must invest in education for women and girls to build a more secure future for everyone and as well reduce unemployment, crime, and hardship to the barest Minimum.”
NAWOJ Enugu advises the government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize education of women as the engine for growth and development of the society.
It encourages all hands to be on the deck to encourage women all over the world, promote gender equality and women’s inclusion in executive offices.
