The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN ) has suspended and sacked six members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for gross insubordination, abuse of privilege and engaging in anti-SWAN activities.
SWAN made the decision at its Full Council meeting held in Kano, Kano State between May 1 and May 3.
The suspended persons include Bonny Nyong, Deputy President, Azuka Chiemeka Vice-president South-South and Ijeoma Peter-Nwante, Financial Secretary.
Those relieved of their appointments were Frankie Omonkhua, Vice President South-East, Lekan Ige Deputy Secretary General and Mansur Mohammed Vice President, North-West.
According to a Communique signed by Chimezie Anaso, chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Segun Giwa, secretary, Chinwe Nnadozie member, Mustapha Musa, member and Ikenna Okonkwo, Secretary General, Full Council considered their activities and suspended them from the association indefinitely for anti – SWAN activities.
According to the communique Honour Sirawoo, its immediate past president was removed from the position of Board of Trustees chairman.
The Full Council approved the increase of membership of the Board of Trustees from three to seven who would in turn elect their leaders.
Sirawo was equally asked to return all the SWAN property in his possession which include certificate of registration with Corporate Affairs Commission.
The Full Council also mandated the present leadership to invoke the relevant sections of the SWAN Status with a view to recovering the properties from Sirawo.
They also approved for a committee to be set up in the next Full Council meeting for the review of the present SWAN Status which already due for review.
They also expressed explicit confidence in the leadership of SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin and pledged their unalloyed support to him and his exco members.
They resolved that it is a criminal offense for anybody or group outside the Isaiah Benjamin-led NEC to use SWAN for any personal or unofficial Communication
Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, was commended for his continued support to the activities of the Association and Sports development and affirmed that he is indeed Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports.
