Hon Chidiebere Agwu, the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state has reiterated his desire to develop the council to make life more meaningful for the people.
Agwu popularly known as Obosi in the state’s political circles made the pledge on Tuesday in Abakalikii when he purchased his expression of interest and nomination forms for a second tenure in the forthcoming LGA polls in the state.
Agwu while addressing his supporters who accompanied him to pick the form, thanked the people for their support and solidarity and promised them more democratic dividends in his second tenure.
“These dividends will spread to all communities in the council and we would achieve more than we did in the first tenure,”.
The chairman who is the first elected Chairman of Onicha LGA from the Onicha Igboeze extraction, thanked the people of Isu, Oshiri, Ukawu and Abaomege for ceding the chairmanship slot to Onicha Igboeze to enable him complete his second tenure.
“This is in consonance with the zoning principle and rotational agreement within the council as this gesture will always be reciprocated.
“I deeply commend Gov. Francis Nwifuru for setting the pace with his leadership style as embodied in his Peoples Charter of Needs mantra.
“The governor’s strides in infrastructure, human empowerment and other sectors have clearly motivated me to achieve great strides,”.
He thanked stakeholders of the council for their support and goodwill, promising to leave legacies that would impact on the people before the end of his second tenure
Stakeholders of the council had earlier gathered at the Abakaliki residence of the former Deputy Governor of the state and Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki,, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu to endorse Agwu.
The stakeholders had unanimously resolved to allow Onicha community to complete their second tenure as had been done by other communities that had occupied the position in the past.
Ogbu who is the leader of APC in Onicha LGA appealed to the people of Abaomege and Ukawu to be patient , assuring them that in two years time the seat will return to their constituency, Onicha East.
The former Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa; immediate past Chairman of the council and Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Felix Ogbonna Igboke; the Coordinator of Ukaba Development Centre, Hon. Chika Nwangele among other critical stakeholders, jointly agreed that it will be fair and just to allow Onicha community to go for second tenure.
Hon. Chika Nwangele, popularly called Asaa in the political circles however appealed that when it will be the turn of Onicha East Constituency, that his community Abaomege should be given a priority,.
“Abaomege is the only community in the council that is yet to produce a substantive Chairman of the council,”
