Children’s Day: Council Boss Admonishes Children To Believe In Beauty Of Their Dreams

By Roland Ike

The Chairman of Abakalikii Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, Hon. Stephen Nwogba has admonished children to believe in the beauty of their dreams as the future belongs to them.

Nwogba gave the advice on Monday during the council’s celebration of the 2024 children’s day at the Nkwagu primary school Abakalikii.

The Chairman while addressing children from the council in front of its prominent stakeholders, said children should therefore be properly raised to take responsibilities as leaders of tomorrow.

“Children should be impacted with proper education, right skills, good attitudes, right mindsets among other virtues, to prepare them for future challenges.

“The iconic former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela posited that education is a very important weapon to prepare children for their future roles as leaders of the community.

“Children should therefore, not be denied of their rights and privileges to education, health care, shelter, clothing, good nutrition, protection from hard labour, child trafficking, molestation, torture and all forms of abuse and neglects.

He noted that the above were in line with the provisions of the United Nations Child Rights Act, noting that Ebonyi children have every cause to celebrate.

“This is because the present administration led by Governor Francis Nwifuru is determined to revitalize our education system for the benefit of our young ones.

“This is through the promotion of multifaceted approaches, principles, procedures and policies aimed at enhancing effective teaching and learning across all levels of our educational institutions.

“The people oriented governor is highly committed to enhance education by giving facelift to public schools that were in deplorable conditions and ensuring that teachers just like other civil servants, are paid well and timely.’

He noted that in Abakalikii LGA, the leadership has followed the governor’s footprints to ensure that children are given quality education.

“We have registered the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for three best performing students in all the government owned secondary schools across the seven communities of Abakaliki L.G.A.

“We have also continued providing writing materials to teachers, pupils and students in our various schools and ensuring periodic sensitization exercises and other extra curricula activities to improve our children’s intelligence.

“Let me emphasise that the task of building a better society through proper upbringing of children is a call for all because when children get clear rules, boundaries, and expectations, they are bound to be responsible and more self-fulfilling.

The Chairman of the occasion and former member of the House of Assembly representing the constituency, Mr Oliver Nwachukwu, commended the chairman for organizing a befitting children’s day celebration.

“It is clear that when children are encouraged to make good choices, the society benefits and become a better place for all.

“I implore parents and guardians not to be fazed in the task of properly raising their children despite the harsh economic conditions and other societal complexities.”

Prominent stakeholders who graced the occasion also commended the chairman and state governor for their efforts in enhancing the well-being of children in the council and the state respectively.
