The League of Women Voters of Nigeria, NILWV, recently organized a skill acquisition workshop on souvenir bag making and turban sewing.
The event was led by the Enugu state coordinator, League of Women Voters of Nigeria, NILOWV, Barrister Sylvia Abana and facilitated by the talented Hon. Serah Ngozi Edochie.
Amidst the buzz of chatter and the hum of sewing machines, the women of NILWV gathered around Edochie as she imparted her expertise in turban sewing survenier bag making.

The group watched with rapt attention as she demonstrated the intricate folds and knots that transformed yards of fabric into chic, stylish headpieces.
Edochie, a renowned politician, explained that the turban’s versatility made it a staple of Nigerian fashion. “Whether for casual wear or formal occasions, the turban can add elegance to any outfit,” she said.

Edochie continued “today, we’re gathered here not only to learn a skill, but also to forge a path towards a brighter future.
Turban making might seem like a small thing, but it symbolizes so much more. It’s a symbol of creativity, determination, and identity. And by learning this skill, you’re taking control of your own destiny, one stitch at a time.

According to the program’s coordinator, Barr. Sylvia Abana, the training was aimed at empowering Nigerian women with hands-on skills to enhance their economic independence.

Abana emphasized the importance of the event. “Women are the backbone of our society, and by learning these skills, they can create their own opportunities for financial independence,” she explained.
She went on to note that the League of Women Voters of Nigeria was committed to empowering women through skill acquisition. “We believe that by equipping women with practical skills, we are paving the way for a more stable and prosperous future.

Earlier in an interview, Abana said “this workshop is not just about making souvenir bags or sewing turbans. It’s about fostering a community of strong, skilled, and confident women who can shape their own future. It’s about creating opportunities for financial stability and self-reliance.
