In a heartening show of solidarity and commitment to the cultural identity of Enugu State, WOSUWO, a group of passionate culture advocates, recently met with the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke, seeking to establish a collaborative effort to preserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of Enugu State.

Highlighting their determination to work together with the ministry of Culture and Tourism to ensure the preservation of the state’s cultural identity, WOSUWO said it will pay bad if our rich Cultural heritage goes into extinction.

With Amb. Onyinye Mamah at the helm of WOSUWO affairs, the group made their intentions clear to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke.

Represented by Hon Serah Edochie who is the chairman Mobilization Committee expressed the group’s desire to join forces with the ministry, sharing their vision of preserving and protecting the unique cultural heritage of Enugu State.

“This visit underlines the sense of responsibility and drive that the members of WOSUWO feel towards their cause, showcasing their commitment to safeguarding the state’s cultural legacy for future generations.”

In response to WOSUWO’s proposal, Commissioner Ugochi Madueke expressed her appreciation for the group’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Enugu State. She applauded their efforts, acknowledging the significant role that cultural preservation plays in maintaining the unique identity of the state and its people.

Madueke assured the delegation that her ministry shares the same goal of safeguarding the state’s cultural legacy, and promised to consider ways in which the government could collaborate with WOSUWO to achieve their mutual objectives.

She suggested areas the duo can partner to include cooking competing of local foods, local dancing among others.

“WOSUWO could work with the ministry to organize cooking competitions featuring traditional dishes, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Enugu State and its different ethnic groups. This would not only promote and preserve the local cuisine but also foster a sense of community and cultural pride among the state’s residents”.

Building on the idea of local cooking competitions, Commissioner Madueke also suggested organizing dance festivals celebrating the diverse indigenous dance forms of Enugu State.

“The festivals could be held in various locations across the state, allowing local communities to showcase their unique cultural dances “Egwu Umunwanyi “This would not only encourage the preservation of traditional dances but also promote cultural tourism and generate revenue for the communities involved.

Commissioner Madueke’s enthusiasm for these initiatives underscored her belief in the importance of engaging the public in cultural activities that celebrate the state’s diversity and preserve its unique heritage.
