In an effort to promote stronger mother-child relationships, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Enugu state called for increased awareness and promotion of exclusive breastfeeding among women in rural areas.

The state Chairperson of the association, Comrade Ngozi Ngene, emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in creating a stronger bond between mothers and their children.

Ngene highlighted the numerous benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both the mother and child to include improved physical and emotional health, and urged mothers to embrace the practice.

” We thank you for joining us today. It is my honor to speak to you about a topic that is close to my heart: Exclusive breastfeeding.Breastfeeding is not just a means of providing nutrition for our children, but also a way to create a bond that will last a lifetime. Through breastfeeding, we are able to give our children the best possible start in life, and to show them the love and care that they need and deserve.

“As we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, we must also recognize that there is still much work to be done. Women must be supported in their decision to breastfeed exclusively and given the resources and education they need to succeed.
As journalists, we have a unique opportunity to use our platform to educate and empower women including nursing mothers. We can share stories of women who have successfully breastfed their children exclusively, and highlight the ways that it can improve the health and well-being of both mother and child.

“Thanks to the Executive Governor of Enugu state, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for friendly administration. By working together, we can make a difference for mothers and babies across the country.

Ngene continues, “So, as we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, Let us work together to create a world where every child has the best possible start in life.”

Responding, the officer in charge of Hil Top health center Ngwo, Mrs Loveth Anih commended the efforts of members of NAWOJ to commemorate WBW with them.

“Breastfeeding is no doubt, one of the most natural and beautiful ways to bond with your child, and it provides numerous health benefits for both mother and baby. From reducing the risk of infections and allergies to providing essential nutrients for growth and development, breastfeeding is truly a gift that keeps on giving.But it’s not always easy. Many women face challenges when it comes to breastfeeding, from difficulty with latching to pain and discomfort during feeding.

We have been encouraging nursing mothers to Exclusively breastfeed their children and a greater number of them have been observing the practice.Thank you NAWOJ for coming to Hill Top health center.

Some nursing mothers expressed their experiences on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.

Mrs. Ada Udeh said, ‘I have exclusively breastfed my child for the first six months, and I can already see a difference in her health and development. She is growing strong and healthy, and I believe that breastfeeding has played a large role in that. It has also been a wonderful bonding experience for us.”

Mrs. Nkem Onoh added, “breastfeeding can be challenging, but it is so worth it.”

Mrs. Ijeoma Nwangwu said, “Exclusive breastfeeding has been a wonderful journey for me and my baby. We have formed a strong bond through this experience, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to nourish my child in this way. I hope that more mothers will consider exclusive breastfeeding for their children, as it’s truly a gift that keeps on giving.”.

Both Mrs. Chiamaka Emenaka and Mrs. Ujunwa Obieze stressed the importance of support from friends and family when it comes to exclusive breastfeeding, and encouraged other mothers to seek out resources and help if they are struggling.”

To show their support and appreciation for the nursing mothers in attendance, NAWOJ distributed soaps as a small gift to each mother present.
