Ebonyi Half Marathon Will Not Disrupt Traffic – Information Commissioner Assures Abakaliki Residents

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ebonyi State, Jude Okpor, has said that road users will not suffer during the half marathon billed for Abakaliki on September 13 and 14, 2024.
Okpor told newsmen in Abakaliki that the state government had concluded plans to ensure a hitch-free 21.9km half marathon.
The Commissioner said that organisers of the marathon were professionals who would ensure that traffic hitches are prevented during the event, the first in the state ‘s history.
“The event on Friday, September 13 will be a business round table which is confined to a particular location and therefore, not pose any traffic challenge.
“The event will enable investors and sports stakeholders across the state and country explore the business opportunities in the state’s sporting sector.
“Designated routes have been mapped out for the marathon on Saturday, September 13 while alternative routes have been designated for motorists and other road users.
“The marathon will hold within a stipulated period and when concluded, all roads will be opened for road users.”
Okpor noted that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) among other security agencies had been mobilised to ensure free traffic flow and protection for all participants.
“The government approved the event following a presentation to the state executive council by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports.
“The event will be organised by the state government in conjunction with a reputed sports agency, Fair Play Sports.
“The event was approved after the consideration of its sporting, health and economic benefits to the state.”
Okpor noted that the benefits were premised on the convergence of people from various parts of the country, on the state.
