The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for his support in hosting their maiden physical Central Committee Meeting.

NAWOJ also used the meeting to call for action on the issues of insecurity and gender equality, which they view as critical challenges facing the nation.

The CWC meeting, which was held in Bauchi, focused on the need for increased training and development opportunities for women journalists, as well as the importance of addressing the problem of violence against women and children.

The CWC members also expressed concern about the security challenges facing the country, particularly in the North-Eastern region.

They noted that the spate of attacks and abductions by terrorist groups has had a detrimental effect on farming and other economic activities in the region, and urged the government to take swift action to address the issues.

Secretary Zone A, the meeting emphasized the following:
A call for increased government attention to the challenges facing women and children, including rape, molestation, and trafficking;
Support for Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde in her bid to become the first female Deputy National President of the NUJ, with NAWOJ urging members to vote for her in the forthcoming elections.

Others are thanks to the immediate past Secretary General of NUJ Shu’aibu Usman Leman for sharing his knowledge on the NUJ constitution during the meeting;

Appreciation to the National Secretariat of NAWOJ for its support in organizing the successful meeting;
Kudos to the Bauchi State Chapter Chairperson Rashida Yusuf and her team for their hard work in preparing for the meeting;

A resolution to continue to advocate for the rights and empowerment of women journalists, and to work toward addressing the challenges facing the country.
The communique concluded by expressing optimism about the future of NAWOJ and its members, and called for continued unity and cooperation among its members.

The CWC while also highlighted the crucial issues facing women and children in Nigeria, particularly the need for increased security and gender equality, also served as a platform for the association to express its gratitude for the support of the Bauchi State Governor and to encourage its members to advocate for the advancement of their profession.
