By Okpara Chukwunaru

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Ebonyi State, Prof Amari Omaka, SAN, on Monday stormed three annexes of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki in an unscheduled monitoring of schools resumption.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Elder Mrs. Matilda Njoku, and some senior staff of the Ministry, the Commissioner first visited the administrative building at the main campus, where he was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof Chika Eucharia Nwafor, who joined the team in the exercise.

As the team went round only the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof Kingsley Agbafor, was on campus with a few Heads of Departments and lecturers.

Most of the lecturers spotted were from the Faculty of Education but none was seen in class teaching. “They students have not reported for classes,” the told the Commissioner.

But the Commissioner frowned at the excuses and blamed the lecturers for not doing enough to ensure that students returned to class.

” Lecturers in this University should be up and doing to reciprocate efforts of the Governor in rendering quality education which tops the table in the People’s charter of needs of his administration.

“It is no longer going to be business as usual. We are going to sanction erring staff, Omaka said.

He directed the DVC Administration to issue queries to all absentee lecturers and copy his office.
