The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has approved an increment of the salaries of the customary court judges in Enugu State. The review of the salaries involves 459 judges of the 153 customary courts.
The increment is also extended to the Chairmen and two members that constitute each of the customary court. Their salaries was more than the double of their previous salaries.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Dr. Reuben Onyishi, who made this known, further stated that the salary increment will take effect from January, 2025.
Dr. Onyishi stated that the Governor took the bold step to cushion the effect of high cost of living in the country. He also maintained that the Governor earlier last year approved an increased minimum wage of N80,000 for the state workers.
He informed the media that the approval was through the memo written by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Mr Osinachi Nnajieze for the salary upward review.
The governor wants a stable judicial system in the state devoid of bribery and corruption that may truncate justice in the state.
