Enugu Gov’t Intervenes in Akpakwume Community Dispute

The Enugu State Government has intervened in the lingering dispute in Akpakwume community, Udi Local Government Area, with a call for peace and harmony among the warring factions.

Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Honorable Commissioner for Chieftaincy, Rural Development and Local Government made the call during a peace talk with members of the community.

Ogbodo, who was accompanied by the Chairman of Udi Local Government Hon Livinus Agu, warned that the state government would no longer tolerate any form of mischief or violence from any member of the community.

He instructed the constituted Caretaker Committee to take over the affairs of the community, pending the conduct of elections.

“The state government is committed to conducting elections in due time, but not too far from now. It’s going to be in line with you constitution. Following the Suspension of the traditional ruler of this community, the caretaker constituted by this government is empowered to see to the affairs of the community until election is conducted” Ogbodo assured.

He urged the community members to remain calm and peaceful, stressing that the government was working towards a lasting solution.

“The administration of Peter Mbah said it will revive domant minerals in the state, when he said it, I did not understand it but it’s very clear now and that was where your Igwe breached. It was not the government that incarcerated the Igwe. He was suspended so that investigation can be carried out without any bias”.

The community has been plagued by disputes and violence, prompting the government’s intervention.

In a reaction , the chairman Udi Local government area, Hon. Livinus Agu encouraged the people of Akpakwume to be law abiding so as to be beneficiary of government dividends.

“Let us be hopeful that peace will finally return to Akpakwume community” health said.

Desirenews Correspondent reports that the intervention by the Enugu State Government is expected to bring peace and stability to the troubled community.
