NAWOJ Condemns Gruesome Attack on Woman, Demands Justice

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Enugu State Chapter has strongly condemned the horrific act allegedly committed by Mr. Sunday Echeji, who severed his wife’s hand.

NAWOJ demands that Echeji be held accountable and brought to justice for the alleged heinous crime.

Comrade Ngozi Ngene, Chairperson of NAWOJ Enugu State, emphasized that violence against women is a severe human rights violation and a threat to human security. She stressed that decisive action is necessary to prevent such atrocities and ensure women’s safety and well-being.

NAWOJ commended the Enugu State Government’s prompt response, particularly the office of Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Executive Governor, for taking decisive steps to monitor the case and combat violence against women. “This swift action demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting women’s rights and safety” says Ngene.

NAWOJ’s stance is part of its ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence and promote women’s empowerment. The organization has previously embarked on intensive media campaigns against rape and gender-based violence in Enugu State
