The Anambra State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating child trafficking, arresting two syndicates, including a fake medical doctor, and rescuing 10 malnourished children.
According to Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Irutugu, who addresses the press, the police operatives acted on intelligent-led information and arrested Mr. Odinakachukwu Okorie, Ifunanya Ogbonna, and a fake medical doctor, Mr. Daniel Ikebuilo, on February 15, 2025.
The suspects were found to be part of a child-stealing syndicate, and further investigation led to the rescue of two children who had been reported missing. The suspects confessed to planning to flee with a 5-year-old girl to Abuja, and Ifunanya Ogbonna admitted to selling the child to Mr. Daniel for One Million Naira (#1,000,000).
The police also rescued eight other children from an apartment in Inland-town, Onitsha, and are working with the Anambra State Government to provide custody, medical attention, and care to help the children recover from their ordeal.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of community-police collaboration and intelligence gathering in combating child trafficking and urged anyone looking for their missing child to come forward to the Anambra State Police Command for assistance.
