Anambra Govt Warns Town Criers Over False Announcements, Misrepresentation of Information

By Victor Okezie

The Anambra State Government has issued a warning to town criers to desist from making false announcements and misrepresenting information.

The commissioner for Information in the state, Law Mefor, PhD, in a press statement said the warning comes after some town criers allegedly spread misinformation about the new Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, claiming that it prohibits certain dress codes, such as wearing dreadlocks or sagging trousers.

According to him, the government has clarified that the new law has nothing to do with dress codes, and that such misinformation can cause crisis and confusion. To prevent this, town criers are now required to consult with their community Presidents-General before broadcasting any messages, and the Presidents-General will be held accountable if the messages misrepresent the interest of the state administration and the public.

This warning is part of the government’s efforts to ensure accurate dissemination of information and maintain public order. The government is taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of misinformation, which can have serious consequences.
