In a shocking move, Chijioke Edeoga, the 2023 Enugu State Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This development has sent ripples through the political landscape of Enugu State as he abandons labour party.
According to sources, Edeoga’s decision to rejoin the PDP was influenced by Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership style, which he described as “rare and uncommon.” Edeoga praised Mbah’s commitment to developing and uplifting the state, aligning with his own vision for Enugu.
Edeoga’s return to the PDP marks a significant shift for the politician, who had left the party after the primary election and joined the Labour Party. During the 2023 governorship election, Edeoga put up a strong fight against Mbah, the then-PDP candidate.
The PDP chairman, Hon Martin Chukwunweike, welcomed Edeoga back to the party on monday March 31st 2025, hailing his decision as a strategic move that would further strengthen the PDP in Enugu State.
Edeoga’s defection has been seen as a major blow to the Labour Party, which had been gaining momentum in the state. The development is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of Enugu State in the coming months.
