Igbo Etiti Local Government has made significant strides in improving the lives of its residents with the successful eradication of open defecation and restoration of water supply.

According to the Chairman, Dr. Eric Odoh, these initiatives are part of the local government’s efforts to enhance the health and well-being of its citizens.

Dr Odoh who disclosed this in his office while interacting with newsmen on the government’s commitment to providing essential services to its residents said “We are determined to ensure that our citizens have access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities,” he said.

“The local government has constructed public toilet facilities in markets, churches schools, and other public places, and has also revitalized water schemes, including the Ukehe water scheme, to ensure residents have access to clean water. These initiatives have transformed the lives of residents, reducing the risk of water-borne diseases and improving overall health and well-being.

“According to the mayor, the council has also established a committee to ensure the sustainability of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) initiative. “We will not rest on our laurels,” he said. “We will continue to monitor and evaluate our progress to ensure that our citizens maintain the standards we have set.

“The chairman also emphasized the importance of community participation in the initiative, saying, “Our people are not difficult, they easily understand the need to key into this initiative. We will continue to engage with them and sensitize them on the benefits of proper sanitation and hygiene. We will do all these through sensitization, appeal, advocacy and love instead of using mobile court in the first instance.

On the restoration of water supply, Dr. Odoh said, “We believe that access to clean water is a fundamental right of every citizen. We have taken steps to revitalize our water schemes, and we are confident that our residents have access to clean water.”

He added, “We are looking for the sumor type to get the Aku water scheme back to foot. Recently, we activated the water borehole at Ozalla, and we changed the rising pipe and the sumor. It was a total overhaul. “I advise the people of Ogbo Etiti to continue to have hope in the government of Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah who has not only come to serve with humility and honesty but has come to show difference entirely in the way governance should be.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mba epitomises Excellency in governance. There is no better way to appreciate such a governor other than to key in completely in those things that he is doing and that is why when you see some of us doing what we are doing we are replicating what the man at the top is doing for the state . “If every council chairman should do what exactly Peter Mbah is doing at the state, then in the next two years, every where will be transformed.

In Igbo-Etiti LGA, our Vision is to lead a council that is most progressive in Enugu state, Nigeria and South Sahara Africa. What it means is that we will not only copy and do exactly what the governor is doing at the state level but we need to exceed him . It’s a thorough ambition but we pray to God to see us through so that people will know that there was a government even if it’s for a short period of time.” end of quote.
