Jafiya Pledges Inter-Agency Support For Revival of Unity Schools

By Barth Ikiebe

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, has pledged support for reviving Unity Schools, promising strategic collaboration with relevant MDAs to address key challenges.

She gave the pledge during a courtesy visit by a delegation of Unity Schools Old Students Association, USOSA, by its President General, Mr. Michael Ibrahim Magaji in Abuja.

Mrs. Jafiya reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to education under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Ministry of Finance Spokesman, Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted her as saying that, “as an alumnus of Unity Schools, I hold this cause dear and will do everything within my power to support efforts aimed at restoring these schools to their rightful place.”

The USOSA delegation, comprising EXCO members from various Unity Schools across the country — including Sokoto, Yola, Warri, Jos, Kano, Ibillo, Bwari, and Ogbomosho — outlined a range of issues affecting the institutions. These include unreliable electricity, lack of digital infrastructure, deteriorating hostels, health concerns, and rising security threats.

Mrs. Jafiya assured the delegation of her willingness to champion inter-agency dialogue and resource mobilization toward addressing these challenges. Her commitment, rooted in personal experience and national duty, signals a renewed push to uplift Unity Schools and enhance the learning environment for thousands of students nationwide.
