BREAKING: LP Loses Another Enugu Rep to APC

The Labour Party (LP) has suffered a significant blow with the defection of Chimaobi Sam Atu, the lawmaker representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This development comes hot on the heels of a similar defection by Paul Nnamchi, representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, who also joined the APC.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, Atu cited the persistent internal crisis plaguing the Labour Party as a major reason for his decision. He expressed frustration with the party’s inability to provide focused leadership, which he believes is essential for the people he represents.

Atu also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to developing the South-East region. He specifically highlighted initiatives like the Southeast Development Commission, which aligns with the aspirations of his constituents. The lawmaker stated that he was compelled to join the APC to support the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he believes will bring about positive change.

This defection is a significant setback for the LP in Enugu State, where the party has been facing internal challenges. The APC, on the other hand, is likely to see this as a boost to its efforts in the region.

The defection of Atu and Nnamchi is a clear indication of the growing dissatisfaction among some LP members with the party’s leadership and direction. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the LP will respond to these challenges and whether it can regain the trust of its members and constituents.

For now, the APC is basking in the glory of these high-profile defections, which are likely to strengthen its position in Enugu State. The party’s Renewed Hope Agenda seems to be gaining traction, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months.
