Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah says his administration is committed to judiciary transformation and digitisation to meet the international best practices.

Dr Mbah who stated this during the graduation ceremony of verbatim Court Reporters, held at the State High Court, Enugu, noted that the training was fully funded by the state government.

Our Government House Correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that while congratulating the Graduands for a successful training, the governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Legal matters, Barr Osinachi Nnajieze described their roles as pivotal and a critical part of the super structure of what needs to be done for the state judiciary to thrive in the most efficient manner.

Mbah mentioned some of their duties to include recording of court proceedings, assist judges to retrieve the records and make quick references when drafting their judgements, ensuring accuracy in reporting court proceedings, among others.

The governor while stating that his administration has vowed to ensure that the courts function optional, said the initiative is aimed at guaranteeing efficiency in justice delivery, reducing cost of obtaining justice, as well as access to justice, noting that with the digitisation and digitalisation of the judiciary, one must not be in the court to be able to obtain required documents.

Earlier, the Enugu State Chief Judge, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, represented by Justice Ngozi Oji transparency, said accuracy, efficiency in dispensation of justice, trust in the legal process from the public, a reliable historical record of every courtroom proceedings are all required in the morden day legal profession.

He attributed the challenges facing court recordings to insufficient staffing, inadequate training, lack of modern equipment and poor career recognition.

Also, the training consultant and the Chief Executive Officer, Lextech Ecosystem Limited, Emeka Albert  said the event marked the  beginning of  a new chapter in the administration of justice in Enugu state, adding that it was born out of a vision to equip the courts with real-time transcription  professionals who will bridge the long standing gap on accurate and efficient court reporting .

He commended the state government, the ministry of Justice , the Judiciary for their foresight, commitment and drive towards the initiation and implementation of the project.

The Graduands are expected to be posted to various courts in the state for smooth court recordings.
