The Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Lawrence Ezeh, has bagged the prestigious Digital Transformation Leadership Award of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The award was presented to Ezeh during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education of the UNN held at the Prince Sandra Hall of UNN at the weekend.
Presenting the award to Eze, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. T.C. Ogbuanya, said that the institution was recognising Ezeh’s vital contributions to advancing the digital landscape in Enugu State and Nigeria.
According to Ogbuanya, within two years, Ezeh has dedicated all his efforts in fostering a robust digital ecosystem and engendered inclusivity of all ages to the tech-innovation movement in Enugu State and by extension the entire country.
The dean highlighted the success of the recent Enugu Tech Festival 2025, themed “Coal to Code,” which attracted over 28,000 young innovators eager to engage with new technologies.
He said, “Ezeh’s effort in advancing the digital revolution in Enugu is commendable.
“Under his leadership, we have witnessed transformative initiatives that not only engaged our youths but also laid the groundwork for a future where technology drives economic progress.
“His contributions serve as an inspiration to us all, and this award is a testament to landmark achievements in digital education and innovation.”
Ogbuanya said that the award to “Ezeh is not just recognition; it is a call to continue investing in the technological aspirations of Enugu State”.
He encouraged the commissioner to continue to be committed to furthering goals that inspire future leaders and create abundant opportunities for every citizen within the digital landscape of the country.
In his acceptance speech, Ezeh emphasised the crucial role of Gov. Peter Mbah in driving the state’s technological agenda over the past two years.
The tech-innovation commissioner, who expressed his gratitude for the award, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting digital inclusion and innovation throughout Enugu State.
He said, “Today, we stand at the threshold of a digital revolution.
“Under the visionary leadership of our dear Governor, His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, we have made significant strides in establishing Enugu State as a top contender in the digital landscape in the country and Africa.
“The support we receive is essential for empowering our youth and enriching our community through technology.”
Ezeh elaborated on the various initiatives led by the ministry to enhance vocational and technical education in the state, emphasising the importance of equipping students with the skills necessary for success in a rapidly evolving job market.
He noted that digital literacy and technological expertise are currently essential components for thriving in today’s economy.
It would be recalled that the Enugu Tech Festival 2025 (2025 ETF 1.0) is a landmark event organised by Ezeh’s ministry which exemplifies Gov. Mbah’s vision of “Coal to Code”.
The ETF was aimed at bridging the gap between traditional industries and emerging technologies; leading to conversations about sustainable energy solutions and the role of technology in shaping the future and gathering thousands of young digital enthusiasts eager to make their mark.
The award ceremony was attended by faculty lecturers, members and thousands of students who gathered to honour achievements in digital transformation.
