One of the keys to solving the myriad of problems and social vices in Nigeria is providing children with quality and functional education that can equip them to be independent and think out of the box.

This was part of the views expressed by educationists, professionals and guests at the official opening of a high profile school, Grandics International Schools, at Harmony Estate, Enugu.

Speaking on the occasion, an educationist, Mr Kenneth Nnamani, noted that the foundation of good citizenship starts from the school. He said a sound curriculum content in schools provides a solid foundation upon which the student can build upon.

Nnamani, who is Principal Mount Olive College Umunya, Anambra State commended the vision behind the establishment of the new school.

A former Inspector of Education In Anambra State, Barr Ndubuisi, stated that there was no alternative to good schools if the nation’s educational goals must be attained.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr Hyacinth Ezike, described Grandics International Schools as a significant milestone by a consumate educationist that has been in the business of education for decades.

“We are here to celebrate a culmination of enormous collective effort that began several years ago as a dream but today has been translated into reality.

“This is an epic event in the development history of Harmony Estate as we are being bequeathed the first and only secondary school with the vision of raising morally faultless, academically impeccable and religiously upright students.”

Ezike, who is also Chairman of Harmony Estate Landlords Association, gave an assurance that the Harmony community would give adequate support to the school.

“We are the primary stakeholders in the establishment of Grandics International Schools. Our involvement is based on the fact that the school is in our environment and we will supply majority of the students.

“We are also going to be involved in creating a serene and highly secured environment and high moral ethos that the school and students will key into,” he promised.

To the Founder of the School, Captain Nelson Chike Orazulume, the event was the begining of a life-long desire to provide a holistic education to children.

“Our vision is to create a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity and character development. We believe that every child is unique and has inherent potential waiting to be unlocked.

“We value your feedbacks, trust and enthusiasm and will look forward to working together to ensure the success and well-being of our students”, Orazulume said.

In her vote of thanks, the Principal of the school, Mrs Ngozi Orazulume presented little Miss Lucy Kamsiyochukwu Obinna as the first beneficiary of the school’s scholarship scheme for indigent students. The full scholarship runs from JSS 1 to SSS 3.

The guests, which included the traditional ruler of Umuchigbo Nike, Igwe Jude Agu, religious and community leaders, were captivated by the response of Lucy bas she recalled the qualifying test, her family background, saying she never expected to win the scholarship.

“It’s a big surprise to me”, Lucy said amid tears of joy.

The highlights of the ceremony were a prayer session commiting the school to God by Rev Uche Akaji Agwu of the Cathedral Church of St. Cyprians, Abakpa Nike while Venerable
Mekaowulu Ugochukwu of Our Redeemers Anglican Church Ogwuagor Abakpa Nike dedicated the school and cut the tape.
