A review of the recently released “2025 State Performance Index” reveals significant performance challenges for the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led Anambra State administration across multiple governance and development indicators. The state’s overall ranking plummeted from 8th position in 2024 to 34th out of 36 states in 2025—a decline of 26 positions representing one of the steepest falls in the index.

Education and Infrastructure saw Anambra ranked a distant 33rd relative to population size, indicating substantial gaps in educational facilities and resources. Similarly, Capital Expenditure placed the state in 33rd position for per capita capital spending, suggesting severely limited reinvestment in critical infrastructure.

Public Health Delivery, an outcome every serious administration should prioritize, witnessed the state lagging at 30th place. Meanwhile, Governance and Service Delivery came with the damning verdict of “persistent gaps” in core governmental functions.

Perhaps most telling is the “State Attractiveness” metric, where Anambra was identified as among the least preferred destinations for relocation, sharing this dubious distinction with Bayelsa and ( Bandit Ridden) Zamfara states.

Such dramatic ranking decline indicates systemic issues that require immediate attention. The consistency of poor performance across multiple indicators—education, health, capital expenditure, and governance—suggests these are not isolated problems but reflect broader institutional and policy failures suggesting that it is completely broken in Anambra.

While the state government has criticized the report’s methodology, raising concerns about sample size and research design, this should not overshadow the urgent need to address the underlying issues highlighted. Even accounting for potential methodological limitations, the scale of the ranking decline warrants serious examination of current policies and implementation strategies amidst the humongous funds available to the state since Soludo’s emergence as governor.

Despite the poor 2025 ranking, Anambra’s previous 8th position demonstrates the state retains capacity for better performance. This is where the Prince Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu MFR manifesto stands tall.

The Path Forward

Short-term Actions, within 6-12 months should see an emergency infrastructure audit and quick-win projects. Likewise a
comprehensive governance system review and immediate reforms with Intensive stakeholder engagement to identify priority areas and strategic budget reallocation to address critical gaps

In this fashion too medium-term strategies ranging for three years should see the state launch comprehensive infrastructure development program

• Implement civil service reform and capacity building initiatives
• Establish robust public-private partnership frameworks
• Deploy performance monitoring and evaluation systems.

Lastly, a long-term Vision (3-5 years) will also be needed with the targets of
positioning Anambra among Nigeria’s top 6 performing states as well as

• Achieve sustainable improvement across all performance indicators
• Establish the state as a model for governance excellence in the Southeast region

Conclusion

The 2025 index results, while deeply concerning, exposes the Soludo administration and his inordinate desire for a second term as a disaster foretold. The success of the state will require unwavering political will, adequate resource allocation, effective implementation strategies, and sustained commitment to transparent and accountable governance, this can only be possible with the election of Prince Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu MFR.

The people of Anambra deserve better. The time for excuses has passed—what’s needed now is decisive action to reverse this alarming decline and restore the state to its rightful place among Nigeria’s best-performing states.
