‎The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Enugu State Chapter has inaugurated a new executive, tasked with steering the affairs of the association for the next three years.

‎The new leadership, headed by Comrade Ngozi Ngene as Chairperson and Comrade Amaka Uchennadiukwu as Vice Chairperson, is expected to drive the association’s agenda, prioritizing member welfare and capacity building initiative.

‎Earlier in a keynote address, Comrade Amaka Agbo, National Vice Chairperson, NAWOJ South East Zone, commended the peaceful coexistence that had characterized the zone and warned that any attempt to disrupt thie peace would not be tolerated.

‎”Let us maintain the spirit of unity and cooperation that has been our hallmark,” Comrade Agbo emphasized.

‎In her acceptance speech, Comrade Ngozi  Ngene emphasized unity and collective effort, pledging to establish a committee dedicated to championing member welfare. She also assured that active members who pay their dues would be recognized.

‎Other members of the new executive includes Comrade Nnenna Igwe as Secretary, Comrade Oluchi Obilor as Assistant Secretary, Comrade Ogochukwu Chukwudike as Treasurer, and Comrade Thelma Ewoh as Financial Secretary.

‎Members of the association contributed to the discourse, with Adaobi Anah from the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) urging the new leadership to maintain peace and ensure disciplinary measures are in place to prevent discord.

‎”It takes enough grace for one to have peace and continue to give peace,” Anah advised.

‎Clementina Ngwu commended the outgoing executive for their efforts and encouraged the new leadership to build on those successes. “The past executive tried. There was no problem in the past executive which I want to continue in this administration. I want everyone to support them,” Ngwu stated.

‎Precious Chukwuekezie from ESBS suggested that the new executive should organize capacity-building workshops to equip members and attract more people to get involved in the association’s activities. “The new executive should think towards organizing a capacity-building workshop to equip members. Agencies should invite us for different training to attract more people to get involved in what is happening. You will achieve more if you work together,” Chukwuekezie emphasized.

‎The swearing-in ceremony was performed by Comrade Ngozi Mbah, a Board of Trustees (BOT) member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

‎NAWOJ Enugu State Chapter is poised to strengthen its presence in the media landscape, advocating for the rights and welfare of women journalists while promoting excellence in journalism.

‎Meanwhile, the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Enugu state council, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka addressing the new executive in his office shortly after the election said “Let us ensure that we adhere to the rules that govern us, promoting unity and working towards the growth and development of members.”

‎Comrade Ogbuka therefore promised to support the new administration to achieve an expected result.
