Awgu–Oji River Road Collapse: Enugu Ministry Clarifies Federal Responsibility, Urges Motorists’ Caution

‎The attention of the Enugu State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure has been drawn to a post circulating on social media regarding the collapse of a section of the Awgu – Oji River Road.

‎In a statement e-signed by
‎Ngozi Ngene, PRO, Ministry of Works & Infrastructure Enugu State, the ministry states clearly that this is a Federal Road under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.

‎”Following the incident, the Federal Controller of Works, FERMA, the contractor handling the project, officials of the Enugu State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure, and the Chairmen of Awgu and Oji River LGAs have all visited the site to assess the situation and agree on immediate response measures.

‎Incidents of this nature are not uncommon on major road corridors, especially in areas or regions with loose geological formations.

‎We urge all motorists and road users to avoid the affected section, adhere strictly to traffic advisories, and exercise caution while plying the route.

‎The Ministry is in close contact with the responsible federal agencies to ensure that remedial works commence without delay. Our priority remains the safety of the public and the restoration of normal traffic flow.”
