INEC Begins Inspection of Sensitive Materials for Anambra Governorship Election

‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced inspection of sensitive materials for Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra state.

‎Speaking with journalists after receiving the materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the resident electoral commissioner (REC) in the state, Queen Agu, reaffirmed INEC’s readiness for the election.

‎Agu said the materials will be promptly distributed to all LGAs to ensure seamless deployment before the polls begin.

‎The Anambra commissioner of police, Abayomi Shogunle assured that everything needed in terms of security and logistics has been put in place.

‎“There will be voting in all the polling units in Anambra state come Saturday except two polling units, and this is as a result of zero registered voters,” Shogunle said.

‎“No person has registered to vote in those two polling units. Otherwise, the elections will go ahead in all locations as expected on Saturday.

‎“And part of meeting the timeline is what we are witnessing here today, which is the commencement of the distribution of electoral materials from the central bank to all the local government areas in the state.

‎“By very early Saturday morning, all these electoral materials would arrive at the various polling stations across the state.

‎“Security has been put in place, on land and on the waterways as well as the air patrol.”

‎Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Joash Amupitan, INEC chairman, said 2,769,137 out of 2,802,790 registered voters in Anambra state have collected their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

‎Amupitan said the figure represents an impressive 98.8 percent collection rate, describing the turnout as “a significant achievement for any election in Nigeria,”
