………‎Commits to Major Renovations Before End of Rotary Year

‎The women in Rotary Club District 9142 have presented a generous package of educational resources including white marker boards, student desks and writing materials to an Enugu primary school and pledged to undertake substantial renovation work in the school before the Rotary year ends.

‎This dual initiative aims to improve learning outcomes and demonstrate the club’s ongoing commitment to community development in Nigeria, especially in the South East.

‎Speaking at the ceremony attended by Rotary officials, government representatives and community stakeholders, the covener and state Rep. Enugu Women in Rotary, Dr. Ngozi Obioha Nkemdirim thanked their partners who made the day possible.

“Rotary has stepped in and the government will soon follow,” she said, adding that the group’s earlier health outreach had shown that “today, education matters.”

‎The event, held at Aria Road Primary School Ugwuaaron Area, GRA Enugu, was part of a series of projects undertaken by the Women in Rotary under the leadership of PAG Eunice O Linus Okere, District Chair for Women in Rotary.

‎Okere, who represented the District Governor Rtn. Kelechi Anyanwu recounted the group’s recent activities in August and said that members traveled to Aba in Abia State to distribute generators, grinding engines and other equipments to more than five beneficiaries. “After Abia, we went to Owerri, today, we felt it was Enugu’s turn to be remembered,” she explained.

‎She highlighted the group’s focus on Rotary’s seven areas of service. “In July, members visited the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Imo State, providing financial assistance to indigent mothers and newborns. In August, we supplied grinding machines, sewing machines and other income‑generating tools to households in need.

‎”The current school renovation project aims to replace dilapidated roofs, reconstruct damaged classrooms and repaint the entire facility in this primary school.

‎“Rotary has taken us far and wide. Without Rotary, I would not know Aria Road Primary School, PAG Okere said.

‎The Women in Rotary pledges to mobilise additional resources from Rotary clubs across the district to complete the painting, roofing and structural repairs before the Rotary year ends. “We believe that by God’s grace we will do more,” she concluded.

‎In an interview, the highest donor, Rtn  Thessy Igweani recounted when she joined the Rotary club “I was drawn by the promise that we could make a tangible difference in our community, and today I see that promise fulfilled in the bright faces of the children at Aria Road Primary School. The white marker boards, study desks and fresh writing materials we have provided are more than supplies, they are tools for learning, growth and hope.

‎To the women of Rotary Club District 9142, your vision and relentless dedication turned a modest idea into a reality and I am humbled to stand with you as one of the donors. This achievement is not mine alone; it reflects the collective spirit of every Rotarian who contributes time, resources and encouragement. Together, we have begun the major renovations promised for the school, and I invite each of you to join us in the final push to complete the work before the Rotary year ends.”

‎According to her,  giving is not just about the resources we provide, it is about the hope we nurture, the futures we shape, and the bonds we forge. “I am honored to walk this path with you and I look forward to many more years of service, friendship and impact. Thank you all, may our work continue to shine a light in Enugu and beyond.”

‎Expressing profound gratitude, the headmistress Aria Road Primary School Mrs. Virginia Ugwu prayed God to strengthen Women in Rotary District 9142.

Your commitment to enhancing teaching and learning has brought new energy to our pupils and renewed our hope for brighter futures.

The improved facilities will provide a safe and inspiring environment where our teachers can teach and our students can thrive.

‎The renovation is expected to benefit hundreds of pupils, providing them with a safer, more conducive learning environment and serving as a model for future Rotary community projects in the region.

There were presentations from both teachers and pupils to thrill the audience.

‎Also present were several dignitaries, including the District Public Image Officer, Oga Achillo; District Head Admin, Mr. Dan Nwafor; State Representative from Imo State, Rtn. Chinonye Nnawuihe; and Rtn. Angel Amaefula of Rotary Club Owerri New Town. Others were parents including elders in the community.
