The Enugu State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks—commonly known as knockouts or bangers—as the Christmas season draws near. The Commissioner of Police Enugu state command, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, restated the directive in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, noting that the measure is aimed at preventing criminals from exploiting fireworks, reducing public panic and safeguarding lives and property.

The Command directed individuals and businesses involved in the sale or use of fireworks to desist immediately, warning that defaulters will be made to face the law. It also advised parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and discourage them from purchasing or using such explosive devices.

Giwa further cautioned residents against engaging in bush burning during the harmattan season, stressing that the dry and windy weather conditions heighten the risk of fire outbreaks. Such incidents, he said, can cause extensive damage to property, threaten lives and disrupt communal activities. He added that anyone caught engaging in bush burning would be prosecuted.

The Command urged the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding and supportive of ongoing security efforts to ensure a peaceful and incident-free festive period.
