Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in the State Executive Council with immediate effect.

Under the new arrangement, Christopher Green, who until now served as Commissioner for Sports, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Justice as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo.

According to the statement, “Barrister Green will also continue to coordinate the activities of the Ministry of Sports pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner to oversee the ministry.

“The redeployment takes immediate effect following the approval at the last State Executive Council meeting for the year 2025, underscoring the Governor’s commitment to strengthening governance, ensuring continuity in service delivery and optimising the performance of key ministries within the state.”

Political observers say the reshuffle comes amid heightened political activities in the state, following comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who recently said politics would resume fully in the state in January 2026.

Wike, who has been visiting several local government areas to meet with his supporters, had criticised Governor Fubara, saying that declaring support for President Bola Tinubu would not automatically guarantee a second-term ticket. He also accused the governor of failing to honour agreements, insisting that politicians who do not keep agreements can not be trusted.

Recall that Rivers State has been without an Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice following the exit of the immediate past holder of the office, Mr Dagogo Iboroma, SAN.

Iboroma was affected by the Supreme Court judgment that recognised Mr Martin Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He was among the members of the State Executive Council screened by the three lawmakers led by the then factional Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo.

Fubara currently works with eight commissioners who were earlier screened and confirmed by the Amaewhule-led House before the political crisis that engulfed the state.
